ABOUT US

HANGANG & OUR HISTORY

YOU DON'T HAVE TO TRAVEL THOUSAND MILES TO EXPERIENCE AUTHENTIC KOREAN FOOD. HERE IT IS.

We hope you enjoy your culinary journey with us at Han Gang.

Han Gang, Han River in English, is a 300-mile central body of water in South Korea that runs through three provinces and the capital city of Seoul before flowing into the Yellow Sea. We named our restaurant Han Gang to pay tribute to the essential role it has played throughout Korea’s long history.

Water is the root of all civilizations: it brings life, nourishes the body and soul, and demands respect from those who harness its power. Dating back to 8,000 B.C., Han Gang was the bedrock of cultural development and has been the source of many battles. It has long been a valuable transportation and trade route. In modern Korea, its basin continues to provide drinking water and cultivates high-quality rice for millions of people. Additionally, the hydraulic plants located along its banks generate substantial electrical power. The river is essential for the quality of life for “Seoulites” as they enjoy the recreational aspects the river has to offer, from riding bikes along its many trails to fishing, yachting and water skiing. Just as Han Gang is formed through a confluence of smaller rivers, it now serves as a powerful symbol of the many facets — politics, economics and culture — that flow together to create modern Korea. The river that sustained an ancient civilization continues to evolve in form and function.

It is this authenticity and progress that we hope to capture in our cuisine. Enjoy.
